Vellard View residents hunt for places to stay

Residents of the Vellard View Housing society, which was badly damaged in Monday's mudslide, are having a tough time after being evacuated from their homes, as a precautionary measure.

Forced to look for temporary accommodation elsewhere, many are turning to friends and relatives for help, but are worried about how this shift is going to disrupt their school going children's schedules.

Though the A wing has been declared safe and residents are allowed to stay in their homes, many have opted for alternate arrangements, as gas and water connections have been blocked for the entire building "There is no water and gas supply here, so we are going to a relative's house nearby. My daughter is in Class 10 and I am worried about her studies," said Rashmi Doshi, an 'A' wing resident.

"We are allowing people to come in turns to collect their belongings from their houses, We have to ensure that there is not much load on the building at any point of time. Water and gas connections will be renewed in A and B wings by tonight" said Atul Parekh, Chairman, Vellard View.
