Water-logged tracks affect services, Harbour line commuters worst hit

Services were suspended between Chunabhatti and Kurla from 2.15 pm till the evening, as the tracks were flooded.

At least 100 services were cancelled on the Central Railway, including 28 on the main line and 70 on the harbour line after tracks flooded between Sion and Kurla and Chunabhati and Kurla.

On the western line, commuters complained that services were running late by up to 30 minutes.

“I learned that the train was getting terminated after boarding it so I got down at Wadala and took a BEST bus to Navi Mumbai. It was a horrifying experience,” said Sridhar Jadhav, 56, a Nerul resident.

On the main central line, the situation was equally bad as commuters had to wait for up to 45 minutes.

A CR press release said: “Water-logging reported at Chunabhatti and Kurla on harbour line due to continuous rainfall since Monday night. As a result, services were suspended between Chunabhatti and Kurla from 2.15pm till evening. Shuttle services were being operated between CST and Wadala Road and Mankhurd and Panvel.”

Nitin David, the Western Railway public relations officer, said: “There was no water-logging or cancellations on the western line.”

KONKAN RAILWAY SERVICES HIT

Konkan Railway (KR) services have been affected in Ratnagiri for the past three days now. The KR’s press release said: “Heavy rainfall has disturbed the embankment between Ratnagiri and Nivsar.

Though no services have been cancelled, they are running at 20kmph in the affected area. Meanwhile, engineers are undertaking restoration work.”
