Welukar meets guv, no decision on whether VC be allowed to resume office

However, the meeting did not bear any result for Welukar. Raj Bhavan said that no decision has been taken about the governor’s order asking Welukar to stop attending office.

Rao is also the chancellor of all state universities, including MU. “Welukar met the governor at 9am at Raj Bhavan. However, the governor has not taken any decision on Welukar’s abstention yet,” said Umesh Kashikar, spokesperson of the governor’s office.

Welukar met the governor, regarding an order passed by Rao dated February 19, asking him to abstain from attending the office or discharge his duties as V-C. Welukar wanted the governor to reconsider his decision.

Welukar was not available for a comment. Registrar of the university, MA Khan, on Monday, had sent the copy of the Supreme Court order to the governor’s office. “The vice-chancellor’s meeting with the governor was in his personal capacity. We will follow whatever orders come from the chancellor. So far, we have not received any direction from him,” said Khan.

After the petition, the Bombay high court, on February 11, asked the governor to form a search committee, which will reconsider an eligibility of Welukar as a vice-chancellor with regard to fulfilment of essential qualifications.
