The conversion of the traction from Direct current (DC) to Alternate Current (AC) on the stretch between Vile Parle and Churchgate is scheduled to be complete by February 5.

The first phase of the conversion of traction, that took place between Borivli and Vile Parle, was completed by November.
However, the second phase of conversion – from Vile Parle to Churchgate — is remaining.
“The conversion got delayed because certain clearances from railway board were held back. These have been received now. The only task remaining is the inspection by the commissioner railway safety. Once that is done, the work will be completed within a fortnight,” said Sharat Chandrayan, chief PRO, WR.
The conversion from 1,500-volt DC to 25,000-volt AC will allow WR to run trains faster and will also save around 30% energy.
