The woman had been missing since December, and her husband had registered a missing persons complaint in the Ulhasnagar police station.

Investigating officer PI Machindra Chavan said, “When we called the woman’s husband, Kishore Sukhmal Sukheja, he told us his wife Rani would visit the temple to attend satsangs, wearing gold ornaments. A garage mechanic then told a man named Dilip Menghani had called him in December to repair his Maruti van.” The mechanic had seen blood spots on Dilip’s T-shirt.

“When we called in Menghani for questioning, he confessed to the crime,” Chavan added.

Menghani and his friend, Sunny Radheyshyam Madnani, 48, had kidnapped the woman when she was on her way to the temple. They took her to Titwala and killed her, taking her gold ornaments. They then dumped the dead body in the bushes. The duo’s Maruti van had started giving trouble, after which they had called the mechanic.
