Woman beaten up: 17-year-old girl arrested

The Kurla police on Thursday arrested a 17-year-old girl, who along with three others, had allegedly beaten up a pregnant nurse at Kurla that led to her miscarriage on Friday. Mohamed Thaver reports.

The Kurla police on Thursday arrested a 17-year-old girl, who along with three others, had allegedly beaten up a pregnant nurse at Kurla that led to her miscarriage on Friday. The police had earlier arrested the 17-year-old's brother Rahul Satpute.

Satpute's mother Rajshree and his friend Pappu Kanade have applied for anticipatory bail.

The victim's family said the Satputes' kin have been trying hard to get them to take their police complaint back.

Vidya Pednekar, a nurse employed at Bhabha hospital in Kurla, was on her way to the hospital on Friday, when a fight broke out between her and three persons of Satpute family who were travelling on a bike. The fight soon turned ugly and the trio along with another person beat up Vidya leading to a miscarriage.

Speaking to the Hindustan Times, Pednekar's husband, Vinod, said, "While no one has approached us directly, several people from the locality who are known to the Satputes are trying to convince us into taking the case back." When asked if they have been threatened, Pednekar replied in the negative.

Vidya meanwhile has been granted 45 days leave from the hospital and is recuperating at home.

The police have changed the investigating officer in the case in order to ensure a thorough investigation into the case.
