The accused have been identified as Reshma Shaikh and her son Sajid.

According to the Malwani police, the incident took place at 11.30am on Tuesday when Gracious, 28, was at the Gaikwad Nagar slums for inspection of the drain repair work.

Gracious said: “On Monday, residents of the slum had approached me with a complaint regarding the open drains in their area and other pending repair work. I decided to visit the site on Tuesday to inspect the work.”

Gracious was accompanied by her party workers and other officials. When she reached the slum, locals began showing her around the area while explaining their grievances.

Reshma, who was part of the crowd, rushed to Gracious and allegedly began abusing her. Gracious said when she asked Reshma to tell her about her problems, she tried to hit her while Sajid grabbed her from behind causing her to fall. A few residents caught Reshma and Sajid and pulled them away from Gracious.
