When in Goa, the hippie capital of the nation, if one is in the mood to dance, then it has to be to a dose of the rapid, console-tripping Goa trance. But when Isareli electronica act Skazi took to the Indiafest stage that took place over the weekend, the three-member outfit managed to command the same effect over a 4,000-plus audience.
Vocalist and guitarist Asher Swissa and DJ Assaf B-Bass were joined on stage by Vithali on violin for a 60-minute set at Cavelossim beach in South Goa. Needless to say, the crowd reached a collective state of bodily transcendence while swaying to the last track ‘Boom Shankar…’
“That really gets the crowd going, doesn’t it?” says Swissa post the concert. “All our gigs, in many ways, have been a build-up to the perfect ‘Boom Shankar moment’,” he repeats, hinting at the psychedelic state of abandon to music and sometimes, other intoxicants.
On this night, however, Skazi’s set contained mostly originals from their 2009 album
Zoo 4
. “We end our 2010 world tour in Goa and we are headed to Moscow now,” Swissa says. Though the album is set to be released in March, he adds that the band is still looking for a name and is asking fans to help christen the album. “We will ask our Facebook fans to suggest a name,” reveals Swissa.
Skazi is an ever-evolving live act and they promise their new album will have more electro dubstep than the popular trance, with heavy guitar distortions, that has become their signature sound. “We have really worked on our sound. It will be a 14-track album that will have seven music videos. We are really excited about it,” says Swissa.

Skazi plans to shoot edgy music videos, shot via a red filter in a crime-movie, shoot-by-night style. One of the tracks from the yet unnamed album is ‘How to feel alive…’, which Swissa reveals, will be shot in India. “We are trying to get a team and a storyboard together. The many cluttered visuals of India will form a beautiful music video,” he adds.
