Ex-Viva singer Neha goes solo

The ex-Viva singer Neha Bhasin releases independent solo album Applebottom, wants to bring sexy back. Find all about her hip-hop track and new album Tabaah.

One look at her video, Applebottom, and you find yourself smirking with nostalgia. Singer Neha Bhasin’s single is about unabashed voyeurism. The song, which is about “women with apple back sides,” features Bhasin leading an entourage of women dirty dancing and flaunting their perfectly toned, whined behinds. A lot like Britney Spears’ Dirrty or Beyoncé’s Single Ladies. For Bhasin, though, it is about bringing sexy back. The video is now the official promo for the footwear brand Reebok.

“It’s a hip-hop track and it is a very sensuous song. I think it is quite definitive to my personal style as well. If artistes in the West can be sensual without being vulgar, why will this be like an item-number,” says Bhasin, who claims that the single released on YouTube via her official channel, has already received some 18,000 hits in just a week.

Applebottom is part of Bhasin’s new album Tabaah, which she released via her music producer’s indie label– Independent Beach Factory. “The model of music distribution has completely changed. I have been researching for the past two years and have discovered that the Internet is the fastest and the best way of connecting with your audience,” says Bhasin, who revised her strategy when she heard Taylor Swift thanking her Facebook fans in her Grammy Award acceptance speech last year.

The singer, who gave her voice for Fashion’s popular track Kuch Khas Hai composed by Salim-Sulaiman, has also sung for a forthcoming Vipul Shah film Kakka. “For now, I’m concentrating on Tabbah. I also plan to release another single and take my album on tour,” says Bhasin.
