Global Metal awards come to India

The world’s foremost headbanger’s ball, organised by magazine Metal Hammer, had a special honour this year for the Indian band Demonic Resurrection, which has become the first Indian band to win the Global Metal award.

The world’s foremost headbanger’s ball, organised by metal magazine Metal Hammer, had a special honour this year for an Indian band. Demonic Resurrection, Mumbai’s heavy metal outfit became the first Indian band to win the Global Metal award. Sahil Makhija, Husain Bandukwala, Mephisto, Virendra Kaith and Daniel Rego of the band, won the Golden God statuette at the award ceremony held in London, recently.

Proud of the moment
This is an award previously shared by the likes of Lamb of God, Megadeth, Mudvayne, System of a Down among other heavy rock acts. “It felt great to hang out with the names we’ve revered for years. I am truly proud of this moment,” says Bandukwala, the bassist. Having finally recognised India’s indie talent, Metal Hammer now plans to come to India.

Indian edition
“The organisers feel that there is a lot of talent in the Indian sub continent, which is why they are planning an Indian edition of the awards. We are in talks with them to bring them down soon,” adds Bandukwala, who along with Makhija, the vocalist, created an indie record label called Demonstealer records.
