Imogen Heap to play in India

Grammy award winner Imogen Heap sang in Hindi for the first time, jammed with folk musicians and conducted an impromptu workshop with 30 kids. She returns in November, records song with Vishal Dadlani.

On Saturday night, Mumbai’s Tweeple gathered for an unusual get-together. It was a simple post that spread like wildfire and caused this colossal turnout at Zenzi, Bandra. However, it was Twiteratti and Grammy winner, Imogen Heap who planned this impromptu meet up. Not afraid of the mob-like turnover, Heap says, “I do this often. I’ve organised tweetups in London, San Francisco and New York, and it’s a great setting to touch base with locals. I told everyone that I wouldn’t be performing, but just talking.”

The 33-year-old British singer-songwriter’s microblog boasts of entries ranging from her meeting with Shah Rukh Khan, attending the RA.One party and watching her first Bollywood film, Singham. “Mumbai has been great. This is the first time I’m coming here for work. But previously, I’ve travelled across South and North India,” says the singer-songwriter, who is pumped up for her debut gig in November. “I will be performing at the second edition of the NH7 Weekender, between November 18 to 20 in Pune.”

So what brings her here? “It’s for my ongoing concept album. I started work on it in March. The idea is to record one track every three months and release it immediately. The first one incorporated sounds that my fans sent — like a dishwasher running, chickens cackling and others. This month, an Indian collaboration will be featured,” she says.
