Two-time Grammy winning nu-metal band Korn are not sure what to expect during their debut India tour. Especially since their last album, The Path Of Totality, integrated dubstep into their repertoire, forcing their headbanging regulars to make place for a new crop of EDM fans.
“We love that you can see kids with glowsticks dancing and getting wild, and the metal kids moshing too. We’ve always tried to bring everyone together with our music, no matter what genre they come from,” says bassist Reginald Arvizu.
The 10th album from the American band was one of their best-received works in years. Was it frontman Jonathan Davis’s idea to take his experiments as a long-time DJ into the band’s soundscape? “I’ve always been into electronic music, and returned to DJing a few years ago. I was blown away when I first heard (producer) Skrillex, so I asked the band if they wanted to integrate his ideas into our songwriting, and they shared my excitement,” says Davis, who recently launched an EP for his side project, DJ J Devil.
While Aizawl-based band, Boomarang, recently announced that they’ll open for Korn in Gurgaon, the hunt for opening acts in Mumbai and Bangalore is still on. Ensuring that metalheads are not in for a no-show like Metallica in Delhi last year, Arvizu says, “We feel a great responsibility towards our audience. We take our performances very seriously and ensure that shows go off without a hitch. Our representative visited each venue in India nearly two months before the concerts. Security and logistics has been examined, and we are confident of a glitch-free concert.”

Ask them about their itinerary off-stage and Arvizu adds, “I want to see the Taj Mahal and watch some cricket.” Davis adds that he’s hoping to team up with desi artistes: “I love Indian music and use some of its influences in my J Devil stuff.”
