Grammy-winning pop star Lady GaGa’s controversial music video, Telephone, premieres in India next week. Also featuring R&B diva Beyonce Knowles, the nine-and-a-half-minute clip shows GaGa in a liplock with another woman, wearing shades made from already-lit cigarettes, stripping to nothing but industrial tape over her genitals, and using cuss words.

The video has caused a furore the world over since it first went on air on March 13. Having garnered 24,167,041 views on YouTube, the video has appalled music buffs. While user kipkerriesoep calls it “mainstream garbage”, FairyGothSister posts, “Gaga, do yourself a favor (sic) and shut the F*** up!”

A group titled ‘MTV SHOULD ban Lady Gaga’s video Telephone’, has also been started on Facebook. However, the Indian version of the video will be much ‘cleaner’. “It will have multiple cuts to suit Indian sensibilities, though we’re waiting for the Censor certificate,” said Ferzad Palia, Associate General Manager, Vh1 India.
