Singer Katy Perry is set to be honoured by an American suicide prevention organisation for her efforts championing gay rights.

The 28-year-old has long backed The Trevor Project, a non-profit group dedicated to crisis support for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender youngsters, and bosses have revealed she is the latest recipient of their hero award, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

Perry will receive the prize at a Hollywood gala, directed by Adam Shankman, Dec 2.

Lady Gaga, Daniel Radcliffe and Susan Sarandon have previously been honoured with the award.
