Mr Natwarlal song recreated

Usha Uthup lends her voice to the track, Mere paas aao, originally sung by Big B in the film

Music director Shamir Tandon, who has composed songs for the children’s film, Satrangee Parachute, has recreated a song from the 1979 Amitabh Bachchan film Mr Natwarlal. The song, Mere paas aao, mere doston, was originally sung by Bachchan in the action comedy. This time around, it’s Usha Uthup who lends her voice to the track. Says Tandon, “This is my life’s first remake. Inherently, I don’t believe in remixing. But this is a very beautiful song, which has not been explored and exposed to the new generation because Mr Natwarlal was made over 30 years ago.”

The hook line from the song has been re-recorded and Rajeev Banwal, who is a new lyricist, has written the rest of the lyrics according to the story of the film. Adds Tandon, “We got Uthup to narrate the remaining bit in her inimitable style, which is neither rap nor spoken word, but somewhere in between. In rap music, 70 per cent of the lyrics are not even understood because they’re spoken so fast. Whereas in spoken word songs, it becomes somewhat boring.”

The song has been picturised on a bunch of kids training at an actual music school. Says Uthup, “I got very excited when Shamir told me it was this song, since it was very popular and everybody loved it. I added my inputs as well.” Lata Mangeshkar has also lent her voice for one of the film’s songs.
