Salman, Asin in Rs 2.5 crore shaadi song

Producer Bhushan Kumar’s Ready features the actors in one of the most expensive musical sequences in a complete family item song.

Always known to be an important part of the film, music gains greater significance when a musical company is at the helm. No surprise then that for Anees Bazmee’s Ready, featuring Salman Khan and Asin, every song sequence in the film is touted to be a highlight. Bhushan Kumar, who is producing it, has spent more than Rs 2.5 crore on what he calls, “a complete family item song”.

The head honcho of T-Series, under which Kumar is making the film in association with Rajat Rawail, says that so far item songs have always been identified with gorgeous girls. “This one features the entire family celebrating the marriage of the lead characters, played by Salman bhai and Asin. A lot more sophisticated than, say, Munni badnaam hui or Sheila ki jawani, since 25-30 members of the families are also participating in it. Salman bhai is of course the male spice element in this number,” he explains.

Kumar goes on to explain that since Ready, a romantic comedy with a few action sequences, is targeted at a family audience, it seemed imperative to have a suitable song. "And since a music company is producing it, the number has to be larger than life," he says, adding, that the situation in the movie helped them conceptualise the song sequence.

Interestingly, it took composer Pritam four months to create the music for the song, Peechhe peechhe. “When you hear the song, you will understand why it was so very important to get the tune right,” says Kumar, refusing to reveal more about the lyrics. He reasons, “The punchline is the most important part of the song and it’s too early to give that away now. It’s also going to be an important part of our promotional strategies.”

Currently, the producer is discussing another highlight song sequence of Ready with Bazmee and the team. “We’ll be building another grand set for that too because that’s the second larger than life number of our movie,” he asserts.
