Thermal And A Quarter to perform at Blue Frog

Bangalore rock band Thermal And A Quarter will play songs from their upcoming album tonight at Blue Frog. Their new album is called Three Wheels Nine Lives (TWNL). The title is from a line on one of our new songs.

Bangalore rockers, Thermal And A Quarter (TAAQ) may have lost the ring to their amusing moniker (a take on the original quartet’s Malayali origins) with their current line-up, but frontman and guitarist Bruce Lee Mani feels there’s no reason to reconsider their name. “We didn’t play for 16 years to form a new band altogether,” he says.

For now, they are saving all their creative energy for their upcoming album, Three Wheels Nine Lives (TWNL). Named after the trio’s recent nine-city tour across Singapore and the US, Mani explains the auto rickshaw motif that has accompanied their posters. “The title is from a line on one of our new songs. It’s an ode to the adventures you can have in an auto in Bangalore,” he says about their fifth album.

Slated for release in August, their latest is being mixed by Kirk Yano, a Grammy winner, who has worked with the likes of Miles Davis and Mariah Carey. “He’s working on 10 songs from our Live In New York set.” Will it feature as part of TWNL? “We are still figuring that. There’s a lot of new material, so we are looking at a double CD with at least 20 songs.”

Tonight, the trio will offer Mumbai fans a sneak-peek into what’s brewing. “We will play our audience’s favourite tracks and a lot of unreleased material,” he says.
