After the news of their death spread, the accused shut his ‘clinic’ and fled with his compounder.

The mother of the two boys, Lajja Devi and maternal grandfather, Munna Singh, had taken the duo to Sonu Kushwaha, who was practicing as a doctor, at Bharbhuja Pura crossing. On their way back, however, the boys collapsed.

Munna Singh and Lajja Devi then rushed the children to Agra, where both were declared dead by doctors.

“A case has been registered under Section 304 of the IPC against the quack. We are looking for Kushwaha, who fled after locking his clinic,” informed Ashok Yadav, police station in-charge, Iradat Nagar. The bodies of the two children were sent for a post-mortem examination.

When contacted, chief medical officer Dr BS Yadav stated that probe had been ordered into the incident. “The post-mortem report would ascertain the cause of children’s death,” said he said.

On being questioned about the quacks operating in the district, the CMO stated that a campaign to identify quacks have been initiated. So far, 65 quacks have been identified, of which action has taken against 22.
