Initiating the short duration discussion on the draft National Education Policy-2016 in Rajya S ab h a , C P I ( M ) ’ s S i t a r a m Yechury launched stringent criticism.

“How are we treating these universities? The whole structure of administration of higher education is being revamped in order to centralise it. Without consultation of all states, this type of centralisation is unacceptable,” Yechury said.

Former human resource development minister and senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal called for dumping the draft National Education policy. “Dump this draft in the dust bin….The most important thing in this country is education. Let’s work on this together,” he said.

Education minister Prakash Javadekar, however, clarified that it is not a draft policy approved by the cabinet. “These are just inputs. We will discuss it with all members before it is finalised,” he said.
