The inept handling of an extremely sensitive case further delayed the decision on the rape survivor’s plea for medical termination of her pregnancy (MTP).
CMO Vijay Yadav said the girl’s case could not be taken up as he was preoccupied with tehsil diwas proceedings. He did not even give a go-ahead to his team to start medical tests on the girl.
“We were asked to wait outside the CMO’s office till the evening and then we were asked to come again on Thursday,” said the father.
Earlier, the girl was denied permission for MTP by a lower court and a fast-track court in Bareilly after which the family approached the Allahabad high court with a revision petition.
The high court, in its order on August 29, disposed of the petition while asking the victim’s father to move an application before the CMO. The court directed the CMO to take appropriate decision.
The family reached the CMO’s office on Saturday but their plea was turned down. The girl and her family met the district magistrate on Monday. “The DM listened to our problem and directed the CMO to conduct a medical review,” said VP Dhyani, the family’s counsel.
