NEW DELHI: After television and films, health warnings about the dangers of tobacco may appear on textbook covers and schoolroom walls if the human resource development ministry agrees to the health ministry’s proposal to make students aware of the threat of tobacco to health.
The idea, say health ministry officials, is not to make it part of textbook curriculum but a part of everyday visual messaging targeting students.
“I have believed in taking preventive measures to decrease alar ming death rate from tobacco use, which is possible only through creating awareness. Children can be of big help in our endeavour to sensitise people against the harm that tobacco consumption does, hence, should be tapped,” said health minister JP Nadda on No Tobacco Day.
