A 14-year-old boy was shot in head during an altercation in Kanchan Park area of Loni town on Wednesday over a piece of land. The police said Imran has been admitted to a Delhi hospital and his condition is critical.

The police said the scuffle broke out when a group of men tried to forcibly take possession of a vacant piece of land. During the ruckus, one of the men opened fire and a bullet hit the boy, an onlooker.

According to the police, the vacant plot is located between Imran’s house and a drain. The police said six to seven people arrived to take over the plot, about 15-20 yards, belonging to one Kamil and tried to dismantle a makeshift structure put by Imran’s neighbour Babu.

“While the men were dismantling the structure, Babu’s daughter Rashida and son Arif tried to stop them. Soon, Imran also reached there. The men opened fire at Rashida and Arif, but the bullet hit Imran in the head,” said Mohammed Yaseen, Imran’s father.

Hearing the gunshots, locals reached the spot and drove the men away. The boy was rushed to nearby GTB Hospital in Delhi from where he was referred to another Delhi hospital for further treatment.

In their complaint, the victim’s family has named two women who came along with the five men to get the land vacated.

“The boy’s condition is critical. We have received the complaint from his family and are in the process of lodging an FIR against the accused for attempt to murder. The victim’s family has also told us the names of the persons who opened fire. We will arrest them soon,” said AP Singh, station house officer, Loni police station.
