A day after a panchayat was held at Bisada, an uneasy calm prevailed in the village that has a heavy police presence.
Residents of the village have given a 20-day ultimatum to the police to register a case against Mohammad Ikhlaq’s family for allegedly slaughtering a cow.
Sanjay Rana, headman of Bisada village, said, “There is no communal tension in the village. We are waiting for the police to register a case against Ikhlaq’s relatives. No panchayat will be held on the issue for the next 20 days.”
Muslim families living in the village, meanwhile, said they do not feel threatened by the situation and are living peacefully as in the past.
“No untoward incident has happened with any of us. We are living peacefully with our Hindu neighbours. We do not know what happened at the panchayat. Our neighbours have assured us of a grand celebration for Ramzan,” said Rahmatulla, a local resident.
Villagers said they do not want political parties to interfere in the situation as the matter is sub judice.
“We want to live in peace and so have requested the political parties to stay away from our village. A lot of damage has been done to our reputation. We want to fight the battle legally. We have requested the families of the accused not to entertain political leaders and other outsiders who want to take advantage of the situation for politics,” said Pratap Singh Sisodiya, a retired headmaster of a local school.

{{/usCountry}}Meanwhile, a juvenile accused, who was granted bail by the Allahabad high court last week, was released from the juvenile home in Noida Phase 2 on Monday. He was welcomed by the villagers as he reached home.
Eighteen residents of Bisada village, 50 km from Delhi, were booked for murder and assault after a local mob attacked 55-year-old Mohammad Ikhlaq and his son Danish over allegations of slaughtering a cow and storing its meat for consumption on September 28. The mob allegedly recovered a bowl of meat from Ikhlaq’s fridge, which it claimed was cow meat. The samples were sent for forensic test. The reports of the test confirmed that the meat was of a “cow or its progeny”.
Villagers have threatened to call another mahapanchayat of Rajputs from 144 villages if their demands are not met.
