Armed bikers rob man of cash, gold on Ghaziabad flyover

The printing press owner said the two robbers pulled out his bike’s ignition key and pointed a gun at him

In another strike by armed robbers on a bike, a 50-year-old printing press owner was robbed of cash and gold ornaments at gunpoint. The incident took place on the Raj Nagar District Centre flyover while he was returning to his residence in the area on Tuesday night.

On May 22, four incidents of snatching were reported from across the city — Lajpat Nagar, Indirapuram, Raj Nagar and Sector 23. Three women were robbed of their gold chains while a collection agent was robbed of Rs4.23 lakh.

According to the victim, Jasbir Singh, two bikers signalled him to stop when he was descending the flyover on his two-wheeler.

As he stopped, they pulled out the bike’s ignition key and pointed a gun at him. The other robber stationed himself on the other side and pulled out another weapon, the victim said.

“They pointed weapons at me and asked me to hand over the gold bracelet I was wearing. Upon searching, they also found the Rs24,000 I had in my pocket. I asked them not to shoot me and allowed them to take the money and ornaments,” Singh said.

The victim said he called his family as the two-wheeler was locked and the keys thrown away. He also informed the police and gave them a written complaint about the incident. Singh said the two men were wearing helmets and sped away on the Hapur Road.

The police officials said they are investigating the incident and have launched a search to trace the two robbers.

“We have registered an FIR based on the complaint forwarded to us. We are trying to scan footage of CCTV cameras in the vicinity and will work out the case soon. PCR duties and checking at various places have been strengthened after recent incidents (of snatching),” Akash Tomar, superintendent of police (city), said.
