Dadri lynching: Ikhlaq’s kin want three more booked, to meet SSP

On Friday night, a case of cow slaughter was registered against Ikhlaq and six of his family members following court orders. Three persons — Sanjay Rana, Ompal and Kancchi — testified against the family.

“These persons have already confessed to their roles in the incident. Now as the police are not taking any action, we will meet the SSP this week. If they confessed to being at the spot and grabbing Ikhlaq’s hand, then why are the police not doing anything,” said Jaan Mohammad, Ikhlaq’s brother.

Rana, a former BJP man and the father of an accused, claimed he was present on the spot and did nothing wrong.

The police, however, said they had filed a charge sheet after completing the probe. They said they would look into the matter if anyone wished to file a new complaint.

“So far we have not received any written complaint,” said Anurag Singh, deputy superintendent of police (DSP), Dadri.

Yusuf Saifi, the counsel of Ikhlaq’s family, said he would approach the high court against the FIR for cow slaughter.

On the night of September 28 last year, a mob of locals at Bisada village in Dadri area of Greater Noida, some 50km from Delhi, attacked local resident Mohammad Ikhlaq and his younger son Danish at their residence. They alleged the family slaughtered a calf and stored its meat.

Ikhlaq had died and Danish survived with a fractured skull. Forensic report of the pieces of flesh that was allegedly recovered from Ikhlaq’s fridge confirmed it belonged to a ‘cow or its progeny’.
