The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has selected a private agency to build the 6.8 km City Centre-Sector 62 Metro link, officials announced. Work on the Rs 1,816 crore project is expected to begin on ground next week.

On July 2, the DMRC had finalised the civil tender of this project to make way for final selection of the construction agency. The agency selected is expected to finish construction in the next 36 months.

Once completed, the track will expand Metro connectivity in Noida and take it up to Indirapuram in Ghaziabad, which is located along National Highway 24 adjoining Noida’s Sector 62.

“We have removed 477 trees from the central verge of master plan 3 road and road number 6 and also shifted some other utility services to make way for construction to begin on ground. DMRC has planned this important project. It informed us that it has selected a private agency for construction,” said Pramod Kumar Agarwal, additional chief executive officer (ACEO) of the Noida authority.

“Since 2010, officials have been saying that work on this proposed Metro link is likely to begin, but it has taken so many years to materialise. The project means a lot to us. Once it is built we will not have to board the Metro from City Centre, which is five km away from our sector. In the absence of last mile connectivity, we have to depend on private autos that charge a lot. Once the Metro is built up to our sector we can walk up to the station and travel to Delhi,” said Venkatesh, a Sector 62 resident who works with a private agency and has to travel to Delhi often.
