The brutal murder of Ikhlaq has attracted all the attention at his village Bisada since Monday but the father of 21-year-old Rahul Yadav is still struggling to arrange money for his son’s treatment.

Rahul sustained a bullet injury when the police allegedly opened fire to quell violence at the Tatarpur crossing outside National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) plant at Dadri, a day after Ikhlaq’s killing.

Though the state government had announced an immediate compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the family and treatment for the injured, Rahul’s family is still spending out of their own pocket for his treatment. They had borrowed money from people.

“Even on Friday I had to purchase medicines worth Rs 900 out of my own pocket. I don’t know whether the government will help me for my son’s treatment. So far I have spent around Rs 40,000,” said Rajendra Yadav, the father.

Rahul was on way to the NTPC plant where he worked when some people become violent and police allegedly opened fire. One of the bullets hit Rahul.

District magistrate (DM) NP Singh said he had sent a tehsildar along with Rs 25,000 for Rahul’s treatment. “I have sent a proposal to the government for providing him help. This is likely to be approved soon and the government has assured help. In case the family has some difficulty, we will inquire and help them out at the earliest,” the DM added.
