Flyover at RNE crossing comes in way of rapid rail route

The proposed flyover at the busy Raj Nagar Extension intersection over NH-58 in Ghaziabad may have to be realigned as it is obstructing the proposed route of the regional rapid transit system (RRTS) – an intercity high-speed train-connectivity network. The RRTS is expected to provide better connectivity to Delhi and will also connect Ghaziabad and Meerut to Anand Vihar in Delhi.

The officials of Ghaziabad development authority (GDA) said the proposed flyover is in direct conflict with the alignment of the RRTS route.

“The issue is only with the flyover at RNE crossing. We are sorting this out with the NCR planning board officials. The other flyover at Vasundhara does not have such an issue,” Vijay Kumar Yadav, vice-chairman, GDA, said.

The flyover at RNE is proposed to be built at a cost of Rs 45 crore and will be nearly 600 metres long. This was recently proposed by GDA along with a second flyover at the busy Vasundhara intersection. Both the flyovers are adjacent to the RRTS route.

“The flyover at Vasundhara is on one side of the Link Road and will not create any obstruction to the proposed RRTS route. If the RNE flyover has to be shifted out of the RRTS route, then it will have to be redesigned,” said Sushil Dwivedi, chief engineer, GDA.

This is second project of the GDA, in the recent past, that has suffered issues with other major infrastructure projects. Recently, the Sector 62 to Indirapuram metro extension in Ghaziabad also hit a deadlock due to National Highways Authority of India’s Delhi-Meerut Expressway project over NH-24.
