Greater Noida: Parents vow to shut down school over fee hike

A group of parents in Greater Noida alleged that Modern Public School in Shahberi had increased fee by a huge margin

A group of around 50 parents of students studying in Modern Public School in Shahberi, Greater Noida, said they will shut the school on Tuesday after the school management decided to charge increased fees despite a warning from the District Inspector of Schools (DIOS).

Parents held a protest rally against Modern Public School, Shahberi on Sunday.

On Sunday, these parents also took out a rally outside the school, protesting against what they claimed was a 70% hike in school fee.

“We have been protesting against the fee hike since April but the management has decided to increase the fee anyway. Earlier, I used to pay Rs2,200 per month as fee for my child, but now it has been increased to somewhere around Rs3,500. This is unacceptable,” said Pawan Kumar Yadav, a parent.

Parents demanded that the school management take back its decision. “We took out a rally outside the school demanding that the management stop charging us increased fee. We have decided not to pay the hiked fee until a notice is issued by the administration,” said Rajendra Tyagi, another parent.

“We received a letter from the DIOS asking for the justification behind the hiked fee. We gave them a prompt and detailed reply justifying our reasons for increasing the fee. We have increased it by 35%,” said Pankaj Kumar, a spokesperson of the school.

He also denied knowledge of the parents’ decision to get the school shut on Tuesday.

“We will not allow a single child to attend the school tomorrow (on Tuesday). It will be a complete shutdown,” said Yadav.
