The shop owners association of Greater Noida has appealed to the district magistrate (DM) of Gautam Budh Nagar, seeking his intervention for deployment of a permanent constable in the market area.

“We want the district administration to stop vendors and kiosk owners from occupying parking space as well as walking space in the market. Pedestrians are facing difficulty in moving inside the market and there is inadequate space available for parking vehicles. Shop owners are angry and tension has gripped the market complex,” Mukesh Kumar Jain, president of the traders association, said.

The association has written a letter to NP Singh, the district magistrate, following incidents of regular arguments over parking space between vendors and visitors.

Shop owners said the vendors reach with their wares in the afternoon and stay till late evening. Most of them sell junk food and dump the waste nearby. Shop owners said they had complained to the Greater Noida authority enforcement wing to take action against the vendors and kiosk owners before but there no action was taken.

According to the association, there are around 40 to 50 vendors who have been creating problems for the last one year.

“Jagat Farm market is located in Beta 1. Women visitors to the market often complain against unpleasant remarks passed by some uncouth elements. We immediately informed a senior official of the Greater Noida authority but no action was taken,” Harinder Bhati, a shop owner, said.

The shop owners held a meeting at their association level to decide the future course of action in case the administration does not take action.

“I will definitely speak with the Greater Noida authority in this regard,” the DM said.
