The police said the incident took place on the day on which the exams of her course got over.

According to the police, the incident took place around 8.15 pm. The student, Yashi Dixit, hails from Sitapur. The hostel is located inside the Krishna Institute of Engineering and Technology (KIET).

“She was rushed to a private hospital in Ghaziabad as she suffered multiple injuries. Her condition is critical. Her family reached Ghaziabad on Thursday,” said Subodh Kumar Saxena, station house officer, Murad Nagar.

“We sealed and examined her room but found nothing suspicious. We suspected it to be a case of suicide but did not find any such indication. We did not find any suicide note,” said Saxena.

Dixit’s family members said they are waiting for her condition to improve so that they can talk to her about the incident.

“She suffered a major fracture in the pelvic area. There is not head injury. She is showing signs of improvement but is still on ventilator support,” said Rahul Sharma, Yashi’s relative.

The college administration said that only 20-25 girl students were present in the college hostel when the incident took place.

“All other students had left for their home towns as the exams were over. Some were about to leave. Yashi is a brilliant student and has even won a gold medal. We suspect that she fell. The police have sealed her room and we are cooperating with them in the investigation,” said Manoj Goel, chief executive officer of KIET.

“She bagged a good job in Bangaluru three months ago through the placement process and had come to the college for her final examinations,” Goel said.
