Officers at Indirapuram police station said two such instances have taken place in the past couple of days and two similar cards bearing a handwritten mobile number were recovered by residents and handed over to the police.

“The two cards were found in women’s clothes drying on the roof. The building has a common staircase and is not surrounded by a boundary wall,” said Sheelesh Kumar, station house officer, Indirapuram.

“The residents also saw someone at night (in the area) and called up emergency number 100. We nabbed the person and booked him for breach of peace on Wednesday. However, the man said he was just roaming around and was nabbed by residents on suspicion,” said Kumar.

The police on Thursday said they are still trying to trace the person whose mobile number was written on the two cards.

Officials said the two cards seized by them bore a printed 2011 calendar on one side and the mobile numbers with some words written in Hindi on the other side.

“We also suspect that it could be a handiwork of someone trying to implicate another person. After the incident came to light, the family members of one of the women kept a watch on the roof at night and nabbed the suspect against whom action was taken. He is said to be a security guard. However, the person whose mobile number is scribbled over the cards is yet to be traced,” an officer said.
