A 25-year-old engineering student of a private college in Modinagar was allegedly sexually assaulted by a hostel warden on the college campus on the night of September 4. The police said that they registered an FIR after the complaint was received on Thursday.

According to the police, the B Tech second year student had gone to the warden’s office to some documents. The warden, identified as one Abhishek Rai, allegedly took him to his room where he switched off the lights and made advances towards the student.

“It is alleged in the FIR that the warden touched the student’s private parts in an invasive manner. The student fled the spot and told his classmates. An FIR was lodged under the Indian Penal Code Section 377 at Modinagar police station,” a police spokesperson said.

According to the police, the student also staged a protest at the campus. The college management later sacked the accused man.

“We have registered an FIR under the IPC Section 377 and arrested the accused. He was sent to jail by a court,” Dharmendra Chauhan, circle officer (Modinagar), said.

According to the police, the accused had threatened the student with dire consequences if he revealed the incident to anyone. He also thrashed the student when he tried to resist. However, the student managed to free himself and flee.

According to the police, the incident took place around 10pm on September 4, while the complaint was forwarded late Wednesday night. The FIR was registered around 3.30am on Thursday.
