Noida: Amity student dies after being hit by Honda City, dragged for 200 feet

21-year-old BTech student was killed after the driver allegedly hit him while reversing the car. The injured student was dragged by the car as the driver attempted to flee.

A final year BTech student of Amity University died after he was run over by a Honda City car which dragged him for 200 feet near Sector 18 in Noida on Friday night.

The driver was allegedly reversing the vehicle when he hit the student.

According to police, Vivek Kumar, 21, was returning home from a movie show in Sector 18, when the car hit him.

“The incident took place around 11.30pm. Vivek received severe head injury and succumbed on the spot,” investigating officer Dharmendra Singh said. Vivek and his friends were returning to their paying guest accommodation in Sector 126, he added.

The cop said, the driver was reversing his vehicle and hit the student. In his attempt to escape he also rammed into SUV and dragged the injured Vivek up to 200 feet before being intercepted and nabbed by locals. The driver was identified as 32-year-old Apoorv, a resident of Sector 66 in Noida who works as an engineer in HCL Technologies.

The police said, Kumar is from Mangalagiri in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh and was pursuing engineering from Amity University in Sector 125.
