Noida Authority to develop 8.71km stretch of FNG Expressway in Noida
The Noida authority said that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), which was earlier developing the Faridabad-Noida-Ghaziabad (FNG) Expressway project, has stepped down from it.
The Noida authority has decided to develop an 8.71km stretch of the Faridabad-Noida-Ghaziabad (FNG) Expressway that remains incomplete in Noida. The authority said that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), which was earlier developing this project, has stepped down from the project. The 43-km-long FNG Expressway aims to facilitate commuting from Faridabad to Ghaziabad via Noida.

KK Agarwal, general manager, Noida authority said that a total of 17 kilometres of the FNG Expressway is in Noida. “The NHAI was developing the project but has recently stepped down from the project. Now, the Noida authority has decided to develop the project that falls within the city on its own,” he said.
RP Singh, project director of the NHAI, confirmed, “We are not developing the FNG Expressway stretch in Noida.”
The Noida authority recently conducted a project survey and found that 8.714-km stretch was incomplete in Noida. “This includes 600 metre patch on the ground. On the FNG project route, we need to develop a 5km long elevated road from Sector 98 to Sector 143. This project cost will be around ₹633 crore. We also need to develop a bridge on the Yamuna in Mangroli village as the river is in the way of the project route,” he said.
Besides this, according to officials, a 250 metre underpass is also needed at the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway to facilitate the FNG Expressway. These works also need significant investment.
“We have decided to complete the project in two phases. The patches and underpass work will be completed in one year in Phase 1. We will seek help from the state government to complete the elevated road and bridge over the Yamuna in Phase 2,” Agarwal said. He said the project work would start from June.
The FNG Expressway was conceived in 1989 with an aim to decongest Delhi roads. The NHAI, in 2015, adopted this project to develop it into a national highway connecting Uttar Pradesh cities with Haryana. The delay has not only increased the project cost, but also resulted in inconveniencing motorists as the partially ready expressway has been lying unused for several years.
In 2016, the NHAI had roped in a consultant to prepare a report on a 75 kilometre long project beginning from Ghaziabad’s NH-58 and terminating in Rewari, Haryana.
