The police officials investigating the mysterious death of 27-year-old Himanshi are yet to procure footage from the CCTV cameras installed in the house of her father-in-law Narendra Kashyap, a Rajya Sabha MP from the Bahujan Samaj Party and the party’s national general secretary. Himanshi was found dead with a bullet injury on her head on April 6 inside her in-laws’ Sanjay Nagar house.

According to officials, footage of the four CCTV cameras installed at the house is crucial to figure out the exact sequence of events that took place before, during and after Himanshi’s death.

“It is also learnt that CCTV system had malfunctioned around the last week of March. There was a recording problem reported, but the CCTVs were still capturing live images. Local technicians have failed to open the system and we have now called the system’s manufacturers. We hope they open up the system and get us the footage,” said Manish Mishra, circle officer and investigating officer of the case.

The chances of lifting fingerprints off the weapon from which the shot was fired are also remote, according to officials.

Initial investigations revealed that the bullet injury on Himanshi’s head matched the licensed revolver belonging to her husband Dr Sagar Kashyap. The weapon was found placed away from the scene of crime by the police later, which raised suspicions of disturbance of the scene of crime.

“We will also record the statements of the neighbours on whether they heard the sound of the gun being fired. The victim’s in-laws, who were inside the house, denied having heard a gunshot,” Mishra added.
