Prime suspect in Ghaziabad road rage murder case arrested

The man, Prince Singh, has also been an accused in a 2003 robbery case in Noida

The Ghaziabad police on Thursday arrested the prime suspect in the April 30 road rage case in Vasundhara in which a 30-year-old man was gunned down near a dhaba in Sector 4. During the brawl, two groups clashed with each other after the car door of the man arrested brushed against the parked car of the victim’s group late at night.

Police said the prime suspect, Prince Singh, had also been an accused in a 2003 robbery case at Noida’s Sector 18 where jewellery was stolen from a shop. However, Prince claimed that he was charged only for criminal conspiracy and had been acquitted in the case.

In connection with the road rage incident, the other suspect involved, Sanjeev Singh, was arrested on the night of the incident while his friend Prince (42) fled the spot after allegedly firing shots from his pistol. The police had recovered Sanjeev’s pistol found to be licensed from Uttarakhand.

“Prince was arrested and a .32 calibre pistol and two live cartridges recovered from him. He had fled the spot on the night of the incident and was arrested from near a school in Vasundhara. He has said that he fired two shots during the incident. Since Sanjeev’s pistol was licensed from Uttarakhand and he was found using it in UP, we will recommend levy of additional charges of the Arms Act against him,” said Akash Tomar, superintendent of police (SP), city.

“There was a brawl after our car’s door brushed the other car parked nearby. They started beating us up. I don’t know who fired during the incident, but I was not involved in the firing,” Prince said.

Dhillon, his friend Bainsla and Amandeep Singh dealt in property and had arrived in their Swift car from Noida. They stopped at ‘Bhati Dhaba’ in Vasundhara for dinner. Their car was parked near the Honda City car in which Sanjeev was seated.

A brawl broke out between the two groups in which shots were fired and Sanjeev was injured. He got around 21 stitches on his head. An injured Dhillon was rushed to a private hospital in Kaushambi where he was declared brought dead. Police said that both Sanjeev and Prince were in an inebriated state during the incident. Officials said Dhillon sustained a gunshot that pierced his shoulder and reached near the heart.
