Purvanchal Silver City II: Where RWA performs the role of a civic body

The residents’ welfare association of Purvanchal Silver City II, Greater Noida is doubling up as a civic agency by providing security, cleaning drains, streets and conducting fogging drives in the society.

The residents’ welfare association (RWA) of Purvanchal Silver City II in Pi II sector of Greater Noida is doubling up as a civic agency by providing security, cleaning drainage and streets and conducting fogging drives in the society.

Established in 2009, more than 2,500 people occupy 624 flats in 16 towers. For the first four years, the society was maintained by the builders’ group. After that, the RWA was formed and it has been taking care of amenities that have to be provided by the Greater Noida Authority.

“The builders’ group handed us the baton three years ago and we have been handling the safety and other issues of the society since then. There are many issues that the RWA sorted out as per needs of the residents,” Anupam Bhowmick, joint secretary of the RWA, said.

Safety is the foremost concern of the society’s residents and the RWA has taken several steps to ensure that in the absence of adequate policing.

Residents said the RWA also conducts fogging in the area, cleans drainage and streets, and provides other services that should be provided by civic agencies.

“Every year, the RWA hires people for fogging and cleaning the drains. Even the streets nearby are cleaned every day by workers hired by the RWA,” Anjan Ghosh, a resident, said.

The RWA has also undertaken beautification of parks and plantation of saplings to give the society a facelift.

“Residents along with RWA has planted many saplings along the boundary wall of the society to ensure greenery in the sector,” Baljit Singh, another resident, said.
