UP announces financial assistance for injured NSG commando

The state government said it will bear the medical expenses of NSG commando Rajesh Singh Negi, a Vasundhara resident who sustained multiple injuries during the Pathankot terrorist attack.

The Uttar Pradesh government said it will bear the medical expenses of National Security Guard (NSG) commando Rajesh Singh Negi, who was injured in the terrorist attack at Pathankot airbase in January.

Negi, a Vasundhara resident, sustained multiple injuries, including one in the eye.

A tweet from the CM’s office said, “#UPCM announces for medical expenses incurred during the treatment of Commander Rajesh Singh to be borne by @UPGovt.”

The government spokesperson said the government has further announced a financial assistance of Rs. 1 lakh for the injured commando.

Immediately after the attack in January, a team of the NSG flew to Pathankot airbase and launched a counter-operation against terrorists holed up inside the facility.

During the operation, a grenade was lobbed at the team and Negi and his colleagues suffered injuries. Negi was initially treated at Pathankot and later rushed to Army Research and Referral (R&R) Hospital in Delhi.

“He suffered nearly eight to nine injuries on his body and his vision was impaired as a splinter pierced his left eye. The other injuries have healed but the eye injury still persists. He will go to R&R for treatment by the end of this month. Doctors are still hopeful,” said Harsh Singh Negi, Rajesh’s father.

Negi’s family has a long association with the armed forces. While his father has retired from the Army, one of his uncles is still serving. Another uncle, Naik Uttam Singh, was killed in the Kargil War in 1999.
