Usain Bolt celebrates the day he beat himself to become fastest man on Earth

Usain Bolt uploaded a video of him winning the 100m race at the 2008 Beijing Olympics on Instagram, a race that saw him break his own world record in his debut on one of the biggest stage in sports.

Usain Bolt took to social media site Instagram on Thursday to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of his gold medal win at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Bolt, who was competing in his maiden Olympics that year, entered the event as the favourite to win the gold in the 100m and 200m events - and did just that - despite a lack of experience on a stage that big.

“How can I fail? When everything about my life is a bonus. Where I’m from ppl don’t reach this far or live this life. I can never be a failure!!!,” Bolt wrote as he also shared a video of the 100m race in which he broke his own world record.

Nevertheless, the Jamaican sprinter remains an eight-time Olympic Gold medallist and also finished on top the podium 11 times at the IAAF World Championships.

Bolt retired from athletics after the 2017 London World Championships in which he could only win a bronze medal in the 100m event, with Justin Gatlin and Christian Coleman coming first and second, respectively.

A major football lover and a fan of Premier League side Manchester United, Bolt is now eyeing a second career in the sport and is currently training with A-League side Central Coast Mariners, having already had a stint with Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund.
