Speaking to HT on Thursday, national coach P. Gopichand, admitted beating the Chinese Taipei would be tough. “They are the best in our group. A win will also boost the team’s confidence,” he said.
In the first match, Saina Nehwal beat Chen Hsiao Huan, 15-21, 14-21. But Aparna Balan and Shruti Kurien went down to Chien Yu Chin and Wang Pei Rong 21-11, 14-21, 18-21. Sayali Gokhale made it a 2-1 lead as she beat Hung Shih Han 15-21, 21-10, 23-21. Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponappa beat Cheng Wen Hsing and Chang Hsin Yun 21-16, 21-16.
