After a daylong drizzle on Friday, it was a clear sky on Saturday at the International Rally of Queensland Asia-Pacific Rally Championship here, but it didn’t turn out good for Team MRF driver Gaurav Gill, who was forced to quit the event due to an electric problem.

Gill held a slender 0.4 second lead over Australian Christopher Atkinson after the first three stages and that too despite a puncture in the second stage. “Even after that puncture incident at the second round, I was pretty sure of a good finish on Day One as I could beat Atkinson on his home ground,” added Gill, who will now run on Sunday only to garner some bonus points under the super-rally regulations.
Provisional results: Chris Atkinson (MRF)- 01:13:36.3, 2. Alister McRae (Proton)—01:15:20.8, 3. Brian Green (Brian Green Motor Sport Ltd)—01:22:27.6.
