Consistency paid for Rashid Khan, the Delhi golfer leapfrogging overnight leader Rahil Gangjee with a six-under 64 to end the second round at the top of the PGTI Players Championship, at the Tollygunge Club on Wednesday. He now has a total of 12-under 128. Gangjee could only manage a par score and slipped to the second spot on Wednesday.
Anirban Lahiri overcame a bogey on the first hole to sink six birdies and join Jyoti Randhawa and Vijay Kumar at tied third with an accumulated score of seven-under 133.
Randhawa was off the mark as late bogeys on the 15th and 16th holes almost negated five birdies following a stuttering start that saw him bogeying at the 2nd and 4th holes. Vijay, however, bettered Tuesday's two-under with a five-under 65 with six birdies. "Unlike yesterday, I didn't hit that many bogeys and that made the difference," Vijay said.
Gangjee, who had hit a scorching nine-under 61 on Tuesday, found the afternoon conditions hindering his game. "The conditions were way different today. An afternoon start means that the greens firm up and there is no moisture at all, leading to losing control over the shots. The ball travels 3-4 feet more but that's not what you want at a short course like Tollygunge," said Gangjee.
Three bogeys and an equal number of birdies meant Gangjee failed to build on the handsome lead he had on Tuesday and ended on a total of nine-under 131, three strokes behind Khan.
