It seems like yesterday, but it has been 10 years since I experienced that magical moment of winning the Indian Open — which happened to be my first international victory. A lot has changed, but one thing hasn’t —– I still get a bit sentimental about the tournament and the thought of playing my national open still excites me.
So, when I was asked if I’d like to play this year’s Hero Honda Indian Open, which starts at the DLF Golf & Country Club today, I grabbed the offer. I had a couple of weeks off on the PGA Tour, and the chance of getting back to India, even if for a week, was too good to let go.
However, I must admit I do not have any expectations from the tournament. All I am hoping for is four days of fun and that would be another step forward in my rehabilitation process. The shoulder injury that kept me out for almost five months is healing well, and for the first time in almost a year, I have been pain-free in the last two tournaments.
Apart from trying to make a comeback from the injury, I am also in the process of making some swing changes. I have started working with Dale Lynch, who has been behind such successful players like Geoff Ogilvy among others. We have been working on my hip movement and hand position at impact. I am delighted with the results, but obviously, these things take some time to get accustomed to.
