Assured of a place in theupcoming FINA World Championship after a record-breaking feat, India’s Sandeep Sejwal on Friday his second gold medal in the 56th Malaysia Open Swimming Championship in Kuala Lumpur. Sejwal clocked 28.87 secs to win the top prize in 50m breaststroke, a day after he booked his ticket to the Barcelona World Championship with a yellow metal in the 100-metre breaststroke.
Racial abuse
London: The Football Association is to introduce a minimum five-match ban next season for players found guilty of racially abusing an opponent. A second offence will lead to an automatic minimum ban of 10 games in measures agreed at the FA’s annual general meeting. Clubs can also be charged if two or more of their employees are sanctioned for discriminatory abuse in any 12-month period. The punishments will apply to other types of discrimination including religion.
Anand aims for title
Sandnes (Norway): World champion Viswanathan Anand remains a contender for the title despite being 1.5 points behind the leader as he will take on the lowest-ranked players in the remaining two rounds of the Norway Chess 2013. Rome: Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna entered the quarterfinals of the Rome Masters by scoring 6-2, 6-3 win over unseeded British team of Dominic Inglot and Jonathan Marray in the second round of the elite clay court tournament. But it was curtains for Leander Paes and his Austrian partner Jurgen Melzer as they lost 6-7 (4), 6-7 (3) to Mexico’s Santiago Gonzalez and Scott Lipsky. The Indian duo next face unseeded Czech pair of Tomas Berdych and Radek Stepanek.
