Commonwealth Games gold medallist shooter Pemba Tamang, who is from Arunachal Pradesh, was stopped by the Indian immigration officials from boarding a flight to Beijing for the ISSF Shooting World Cup to be held from April 17 to 24.
The reason? He had a stapled visa.
The rapid fire shooter had already travelled to China four or five times with a stapled visa.
“The immigration officials didn’t allow Pemba to board the flight, as according to them, it’s a Government of India’s policy to not allow passengers to leave the country with stapled visas,” said a shooter, who is also a part of the 28-member Indian shooting team but who didn’t want to be named.
Now, with Pemba not getting clearance, a 27-member squad will be competing in the second World Cup to be held in Beijing.
The Indian shooting team boarded a flight to Bangkok from where they will take a connecting flight to Beijing.
“We don’t know what the policy matter is.”
