Though the cases of kidnapping of children for ransom have declined in Bihar, a total 158 children are still "traceless", state's in-charge minister for Home department, Vijendra Prasad Yadav told the state assembly on Monday.

Replying to a short-notice question of CPI-M's Ramdeo Verma, Yadav told the house that according to official records, 2167 cases of kidnapping or missing of children were reported between 2001 and 2007 from various places in the state.
While the police had succeeded in rescuing around 1752 children, 75 others kidnapped were killed during the period, he said.
Of the rest 340 children, 182 cases related to "love affairs" and sustained efforts continued to recover the rest of 158 children, Yadav, also state's minister for water resources, said.
He assured the members of providing the break-ups of action taken on rescuing the children reported missing so far.
