Police on Saturday rescued 12-year-old son of a retired army official, who was kidnapped from town locality on August 13. The boy was rescued from Kaharpur diara under Jhandapur outpost (OP) under Bihpur police station in Naugachhia of Purnia district and two persons were arrested in this connection.

The abductors had demanded Rs. 55 lakh for the safe release of Vikas Kumar, a student of class 4, who was abducted while he was returning from school. SP Amit Lodha said Kanhaiya Singh from Akbarpur (Purnia), a close relative of the victim, had carried out the entire operation.
Lodha said Singh along with Sunny Kumar, a resident of Tatma Toli, was arrested. A police team succeeded in rescuing the boy from a farmhouse at Kaharpur diara, the SP said, adding that the police team would be awarded for their success.
Vikas, son of Ambika Prasad Mandal, a retired army official, was kidnapped by Sunny while he was returning from Premier School at Subhashnagar locality. He was later taken to an unknown place in a Safari, police sources said.
