They executed three sensational murders, including that of a senior Bata India Ltd official, within 72 hours and escaped with consummate ease. Shockingly, success continues to elude the police in all the three major incidents of crime.

The murder of a senior manager of the Bata India Ltd near Polytechnic More on Monday evening has sent shivers down the spine of the Patnaites, who were feeling a bit safe during present dispensation. "The murder of a senior Bata official on the busy road has shaken our faith in law enforcing agency once again," said a resident of Patliputra Colony.

Close on the heels of the Bata official's murder, editor of an Urdu Daily, Jagdish Jaisawal, was killed near the official residence of additional district and sessions judge in Patna City area on Monday. The incident took place when the editor was on way to his residence from the civil court, Patna City, on foot.

As sequel to the editor's murder, a liquor trader and political party worker Jaddu Gope was shot dead by two unidentified criminals in Sultanganj police station area in broad daylight on Wednesday. Agitated over the incident, a group of local residents gheraoed the police station and disrupted vehicular traffic on the Ashok Rajpath for a couple of hours.

Kumar admitted that action had not been taken against any sector in-charge. "But, action has been taken against the officer, who was on duty at the time of the incident," he said, adding that efforts were on to solve the murder cases.

"The visibility of the police has increased after the division of police stations into sectors and also helped check the incidents of petty crime like chain snatching and motorcycle loot," he added.
