"Governance has ceased in Bihar since the BJP's exit," said former deputy chief minister, BJP's Sushil Modi. Rajiv Pratap Rudy, former BJP MP from Chapra, said a swifter response from the government could have saved many lives.
RJD chief Lalu Prasad, who is also the sitting Lok Sabha MP from Saran, said, "Reports of sub-standard mid-day meals were coming in but no action was taken". Asked if he would demand the resignation of the government, he retorted, "There is no government in Bihar to ask resignation of."
LJP leader Ram Vilas Paswan, though, demanded the resignation of chief minister Nitish Kumar and a judicial inquiry. Attacking Kumar personally, Paswan said he had demonstrated "insensitivity and arrogance" by not visiting the families of the deceased children.
